The VBS T-Shirt Guide

When it comes to T-Shirts for VBS what works good for you? Do you charge for them or give them away when people register? Do they pre-order or do you order a bunch of shirts ahead of time?  What about the leftovers?  Guessing VBS quantities can be tricky especially if this is the first time you have ever ordered shirts.  It would be great if you knew ahead of time how many kids were going to show up, how many staff were going to be needed, who needed a shirt and what size they wore, but this craziness that we call VBS rarely makes it this easy on us.

We hope this vbs t-shirt guide will help.

  1. Make an educated guess about the total kids and staff you need to outfit..  Do you need 12 t-shirts or 250 shirts?  Depending on your situation you may know exactly how many shirts you need or you may need to make a guess.  As an example here,  lets say you need 39 shirts.  Just a guess is all we need at this point.
  2. How-Many-Church-T-ShirtsOrder by discount levels.  VbsTshirts.com has price discounts at different levels: 25, 50, 75, 100, 150, 300, 500. Ordering more shirts can actually save you money if you get just enough to get you to the next price level.  It may at least lower your cost substantially, so that you can buy spare vbs t-shirts, that gives you come coushin.  In the example your best guess is that you will need 39 t-shirts, however if you order 50 shirts rather than 39 shirts you get 11 shirts for just a few dollars more. Basically that gets us 11 extra shirts at a very minimal costs.  So we can revise our target to 50 shirts.Bulk-Discount-Church-T-Shirts
  3. What size T-shirt do you need the most of?  It depends on the group, is it kids, what ages are they?  Do you need shirts for you staff too, or are you just getting shirts for the kids. Usually groups with all adults, the most common size is Large, but use your judgement or ask around to find out what sizes the kids in your church weara.  For our example, lets say we just want to order for our staff – we need 50 t-shirts with Large as the most common size. Popular-Church-T-Shirts
  4. Start with the most common size.  No worries, it will be easy!  Start with, Large. Start with 16 L.  Then a few less… 11 M, and 11 XL.  Then…. 5 S, and 5 XXL.  Finally…. 1 XS, and 1 XXXL.  So you can see how this forms a “Bell Curve.” Ordering-Church-shirts
  5. We already have our 11 extra shirts, but we can do better to make sure everyone has a shirt that fits.  We skew the sizes slightly to the larger sizes since it’s better to give folks a t-shirt that is too big rather than a shirt than it is to give them a shirt that is too small. Bigger-Church-Shirts
  6. Final Tweaks.  Once you have the sizes distributed it’s perfectly fine to make some little adjustments based on things you know about your group, make sure you get a 5XL for a Big Boy, or Little Tommy needs a Youth X Small.
