Empower your students, young and old, to stand strong in God’s Word and display His power in their community. “Super God! Super Me! Super Possibility!” unpacks the whole armor of God and the biblical heroes who used it for the whole family!
INTERGENERATIONAL VBS: Now more than ever, the church needs opportunities for young and old to join in learning and worshiping together. Within the African American community, there is a particular yearning to draw all the generations together in unity of spirit and purpose. Abingdon seeks to bridge the divide between the generations and engage greater leadership throughout the church and community. Super God! provides curriculum for every age group (preschool through adults) to learn, participate, and grow in the power found in Christ.
AFRICAN AMERICAN FOCUS: Super God! is unique among VBS programs in it’s mission to provide a VBS that employs the history and culture of African Americans as an approach to sharing the truth of the Bible within the community. Through stories of heroes in the Bible and of African Americans who overcame great odds, students are encouraged to recognize the power they possess when Christ lives in them. This focus also makes Super God! a perfect fit for a five week Sunday School program during Black History Month.

BIBLE POINT: Using Paul’s description of the “whole armor of God,” Super God! empowers students to suit up for battle. On Day 1, students are encouraged to “Be Ready” as they put on the Belt of Truth. Day 2 presents the Breastplate of Justice, prompting kids to use their wits in dealing well with others. They lift up the Shield of Faith on Day 3 with the truth that “you have what it takes!” On Day 4, put on the Helmet of Salvation with the call to “keep learning” to keep growing in the Lord. Finally, Day 5 encourages us to go out into the world to “love like God loves,” wearing the Shoes of the Gospel of Peace.
BIBLE & ARTS PROGRAM: Help your students take their artistic expression of their faith to a new level. Kids and adults alike will love getting involved in the art form of their choice with options for liturgical dance, hip-hop movements, community arts projects, heritage drama, and other arts projects. Express your superpowers in God through the creative arts!
ARTISTIC SYMBOLISM: Don’t let the Super God! Super Me! Super Possibility! cover art fade into the background of your VBS teaching. Mural artist David Cassidy filled the theme artwork with powerful symbolism meant to help students memorize the text of Ephesians 6:10-17. While a little far-reaching at points (a boy uses the Bible’s power to levitate), the message is clear that God’s Word and His Spirit gives power to those who seek Him.
“The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” – 1 John 4:4b, CEB
MUSIC: Don’t kid yourself. There aren’t any churches around anymore who all agree on music style. But it doesn’t hurt to try. Abingdon boasts 10 “cross-generational” selections aimed at appeal to all the worship styles in the church. Hymns, modern worship, and hip-hop all have a home on the Super God! Super Me! Super Possibility! music CD.
EXTRAS: Some of the best a VBS has to offer doesn’t always come in the main packet. Super God! Super Me! Super Possibility! also offers some pretty cool extras to make the impact of VBS go even further.
- Empower Parents – Churches, schools, and programs often usurp the role parents and guardians play in the lives of children. This bonus resource serves to enourage parents to step up as the primary human source of values for their children.
- Adult Bible Study – The full armor of God is not just for kids. Abingdon has built on the Super God theme to help adults internalize all the power they receive through their own relationship with Christ. Set your adult volunteers up for success by going through the study with them in the weeks leading up to VBS.
- Super Possibility Medals – Superheroes get medals for using their powers well. This special craft can be used to reinforce the values and learning kids display during the week.
